On Sunday the 11th of May, my family ate at Ichiban. My 11 year old son is allergic to shrimp, and we are very careful not to allow shrimp near him. My son eat fried chicken and within 5 minutes had a severe reaction. We had to administer an Epi-pen, and take him to Baptist Hospital in Jackson. The doctor at the hospital instructed us to contact Ichiban and ask them if they cook the fried chicken in the same oil as the shrimp. The manager of Ichiban told me they did and that they were not required to inform customers. He stated that every resturant did they same thing. We have never had an issue like this before. The manager stated we should have ordered off the menu. Would that food also been cooked in the same oil as the shrimp? What measures are in place to protect people like my son who are allergic to certain foods where resturants cook different foods in the same oils and not inform customers.

InvestigationHistory
I inspected facility & talked to the owner about the complaint & told hime that it would be the responsibility of the facility to inform customers if they do use this method involving the oil. I suggested that the facility could use the oil for only one product & not for several products to avoid this situation occurring again. The owner stated the facility would do that.
