While eating at this establishment Thursday I noticed two unattended children at the dessert bar sticking their fingers inside the soft-serve nozzle and licking off the ice-cream. This incident happened in full view of an employee. I notified the manager of this incident who had an employee wipe down the exterior of the machine down. In my opinion the proper action should have been taking the machine out of service untill it was cleaned and sanitized. While I don't blame this restaurant for the childrens actions I do believe tht the employee and the manager should have been more aware of the health risk involved in the kids actions of sticking their dirty hands not only on food surfaces but actually in the food.

InvestigationHistory
OBSERVED THE COMPLAINT ON THE TO DO LIST TODAY FROM 04/16/2009 AND CALLED AND SPOKE WITH THE GENERAL MANAGER ABOUT THE COMPLAINT. HE STATED THAT THE ASSISTANT MANAGER WAS ON DUTY THAT EVENING AND WILL HAVE HER CALL THE HEALTH DEPT. SPOKE WITH THE ASSISTANT MANAGER AND SHE STATED THAT ONCE THE CUSTOMER REPORTED THE COMPLAINT, SHE HAD ONE OF THE EMPLOYEES TO DISPENSE A LARGE AMOUNT OF ICE CREAM FROM THE MACHINE AND WIPED IT. ONCE SHE COMPLETED THE TASK SHE WAS WORKING ON, SHE WENT AND PULLED THE RED TIP END OF THE MACHINE OFF AND WASHED AND SANITIZED IT BEFORE PLACING IT BACK ON THE MACHINE. THE PIECE THAT WAS REMOVED IS THERE TO MAKE THE DESIGN ON THE ICE CREAM BUT IS NOT NECESSARY FOR OPERATION. SHE ALSO EXPLAINED THAT THE ICE CREAM ITSELF CANNOT BE TOUCH UNTIL IT IS DISPENSED. MANAGEMENT IS ADVISED TO CONTINUE SAFE FOOD HANDLING AS EXPLAINED ABOVE AND IF THIS OCCURS AGAIN WITH THE ICE CREAM OR FOOD ON THE BAR, TO BE SURE TO REMOVE THE FOOD THAT'S TOUCH AND WASH AND SANITZE THE FOOD CONTACT SURFACE OF THE FOOD.
