In cases where the septic tank is too small to handle the necessary flow, consider separating the "blackwater" from the "gray water". Gray water is wastewater that comes from the showers, sinks, washing machines, and other appliances. Blackwater is from toilets and garbage disposals and can be discharged to a holding tank and held for pickup, thus reducing the amount of water that must be treated by the septic system.
